You may have noticed that sometimes the smell of your fragrance perfume or cologne lingers on your sweaters, jackets and coats. Well I once had an experience associated with cologne on a sweater that I will never forget.
I used to be romantically involved with a man from Greece called Dinos who came to study in England. We had a five year relationship and we are still friends today. Dinos and I shared an apartment together until his studies were over and he had to do obligatory military service back in Greece. I was to go to Greece to start a teaching position some months later but until then we would have to spend ten months apart.
When Dinos went back to Greece it felt really weird without him in the apartment. I was only 24 and I missed him so much it felt like it hurt physically. We talked regularly on the phone but it wasn’t the same. The only thing that really gave me comfort when we were apart was the smell of the cologne on one of his sweaters which somehow made me feel close to him.
I knew then how intense an impression fragrance perfume and cologne products can have on people. I think that without us quite realizing it consciously the fragrance perfume or cologne products our partners wear become reassuringly familiar and heart-warming to us.
